NASA to do feasibility study on manning Orion Spacecraft’s first flight

Days after the US President Donald Trump promised to “unlock the mysteries of space”, Nasa has kicked off a study to assess the feasibility of adding a two-member crew to the first unmanned flight of the agency’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft called Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1).William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator of NASA’s human explorations and operation mission directorate in Washington, said they would be looking at a “big, crisp list of all the things we would physically have to change” on the vehicle in order to accommodate astronauts. Engineers are assessing hardware changes, schedule delays, additional costs and increased risks of flying a two-member crew on the first flight of the Space Launch System rocket, which is about four times bigger and more powerful than any current U.S. booster. Not only that, but on Thursday, an independent safety panel cautioned that NASA needs a compelling reason to put astronauts on the initial flight, given the risk. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield arrested
The incident occurred at roughly 2:30 a.m. local time this morning, with Mayfield finally being booked a couple hours ago. The report says Mayfield was chased down and tackled to the ground. “We don’t have any other information at this time”. The Space Launch System is expected to be the most powerful rocket ever to fly. But NASA’s acting administrator Robert Lightfoot asked on February 15 for the space agency to study the feasibility of putting people on board, and the findings of that study are expected in the coming months. It will assume launching two crew members in mid-2019, and consider adjustments to the current EM-1 mission profile. If approved, the astronauts would fly aboard an Orion capsule, under development by Lockheed Martin Corp, and swing around the moon during an eight- to nine-day mission, similar to what the Apollo 8 crew accomplished in 1968. “This is an assessment and not a decision as the primary mission for EM-1 remains an uncrewed flight test”. A crew is already expected to be included in the rocket’s second flight, which is now scheduled for August 2021. Gas prices a factor in Manitoba inflation jump
The rise was partly due to higher crude oil prices in January, as well as a monthly decline a year earlier, StatsCan said. Ontario has also introduced a new cap and trade system, but it’s unclear if that has begun to flow through to prices. The new United States administration has requested that NASA considers a near-term crewed test flight and perhaps a later crewed mission to the moon. The space agency said that their priority is to ensure effective and safe execution of all their planned tests with the SLS rocket and the Orion spacecraft.
